Conclusion: This is a camera that has some improvements over previous models of the series R. First of all a larger LCD display, 2 inches, a major improvement given that the camera has no viewfinder. The other innovation is substantial Pentax optical zoom up to 5x, where the previous models stopped at a 3x.

The camera is very comprehensive and allows everybody to get good photos and, for those who are more experienced, to adapt the photographs according to their own tastes and needs. The only flaw, so if you want to call, is the internal memory of only 32 MB, but you can easily expand it with other cards.

Design
Looking more closely design, this is a type of compact camera measuring 91 mm in height, 57 mm in width and 29.8 mm in depth with a total weight, excluding the battery, 160 grams. The purchase package also includes a USB cable, a lithium battery, AC adapter, a wrist strap, the user manual and CD containing the software.
The camera is also available in classic silver color.

Features and Performance
Turning to the specifications, this is a camera that can automatically perform all the basic functions. Presents compared to other models of the R series, a guide that allows even beginners to get the best photos. At the same time, however, offers ample scope for manual adjustment, where more experienced users want to intervene personally on functions that otherwise would be managed automatically.
Regarding technical specifications, the shutter is mechanical, with speeds ranging from 15 to 1 / 2000 second. The white balance is done in automatic mode and manual, while the compensation is + / -3.0 EV in increments of 1 / 3 EV. Does not have a viewfinder so the players come only through the display. Regarding the sensitivity, values reaching 400 ISO and, specifically, are 50, 100, 200 and 400 ISO.
It has automatic flash modes: anti red eye, flash always access off night and you can choose between different modes of image, in all 15, including horizontal, vertical, beach, snow, sunset, landscape and many others .
On this device may also install some software useful to the user as the HP Adaptive Lighting, which automatically corrects images with high contrast, assisted panorama mode that lets you compose shots with more photos, the HP Image Advice, which analyzes the photos and offers tips for better results. Another important feature is one that allows you to create videos up to 30 frames per second. Regarding the latter, are saved in MPEG format, while the photographs are stored in JPEG format. The internal memory, however, not very big, only 32 MB, but it should be emphasized the possibility to expand up to a maximum of 1 GB, purchasing additional cards or a MultiMediaCard Secure Digital. The battery is lithium-ion from 1050 mAh rechargeable and has a duration from 100 to 190 shots. The camera can also be connected to a compatible device, such as a computer via the USB port before it.
The camera HP Photosmart R817 also includes some enhancements, or bought after the purchase, which can be used in extreme conditions. For example, the underwater housing allows you to take pictures during the dives to 40 meters, while resistant to the elements ensures excellent photos even in conditions. As is also a docking station that lets you print photos directly.
