Pro: Display largest and with excellent resolution, “true” (three-layer responsive ultimate engine): new processor for managing rapid images; 14 megapixel sensor
Cons: No stabilizer; size, weight, no video movies
Conclusion: The Sigma DP1 is a camera Spartan to the appearance and size not small. Its characteristic peak is, of course, the 14 megapixel sensor, the same as the Sigma has also mounted on its new SLR. Another element is to highlight the true image processor that seems to be of excellent quality, according to the statement made by the manufacturer.
Design
From aesthetic, digital camera Sigma PD1 has Spartan forms, lines squared, enclosed in size not too small. Its measures are 113.3 mm wide, 59.5 mm in height and 50.3 mm deep. The weight, less battery is 240 grams. The camera has a 2.5 inch display, and then in the media, with a resolution of 230,000 pixels, much higher than other competing models. Finally, the only available color is black.
Features and functions
The manufacturer Sigma presented in the month of September 2006 its ambitious compact DP1, with characteristics similar to another new model from the same manufacturer, the reflex Sigma Sd14. Although still does not have many reports in this regard, the Sigma PD1 camera is a black, compact, professional and essential forms. The most striking aspect of this compact digital is the image sensor, which is then mounted on the same reflex, specifically this is the Foveon X3 sensor, composed of 3 layers of pixels (one per color channel) that to create the image without having to interpolate between them as the various pixel sensors normally occurs on “traditional”. The image obtained measure 2652 x 1768 pixels, multiplied by 3 channels, which makes the sensor is from 14 megapixels. Among other things, the size of this sensor is 10 times larger than those used in conventional compact cameras. The objective of which is equipped with the DP1 is a fixed 16.6 mm f / 4, equivalent to 28 mm in traditional 35mm format, also lacks the optical zoom. The aspherical lenses offer the correction of all types of aberration and allow you to capture information on precise and accurate color. The Sigma DP1 allows addition, a total control of functions, thanks to the way priorities of the times, aperture priority, and manual exposure compensation. This is also the function of bracketing. The Sigma DP1 incorporates also the Powerful True Image Processor (acronym for Three-layer Responsive Ultimate Engine), which enables you to manage large images made by the 14 megapixel sensor and played with the same quality of the film and allows for ‘ development of high speed. With respect, then, the format for saving images, the camera supports both RAW than JPEG, allowing the photographer to capture the highest possible definition images in the size smaller. Finally, the camera has no internal memory but in the package includes the memory card type Secure Digital slot and insert into the battery is built-in rechargeable lithium ion but we do not know the duration.
